Anthropology is the scientific study of people, past and present. Anthropology is typically divided into the following four main subfields, each focusing on different aspects of humans and human behavior.

Archaeology
The study of material remains left by past historic or prehistoric human societies.
Biological Anthropology
The study of human evolution, biological variation, and adaptation.
Cultural Anthropology
The study of how culture influences beliefs, practices, and institutions.
Linguistic Anthropology
The study of the construction and use of language as a cultural resource.
